The Sims 2 Aliasing Problems

I installed The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection on my Windows 10 stationary computer, last time I played it was on a Windows 7 laptop. There were no problems playing it on the Windows 7 laptop, but with the Windows 10 computer I have had to tweak some things in the Graphics Rules files (both in Config and CSConfig). There is just one problem left, and I can't find any solution anywhere, neither on Google nor in this forum, because it seems like nobody has the same graphics card as I have, and the solutions I've seen for other graphics cards don't work for mine. The game simply doesn't recognise my graphics card, and nothing I do makes any difference in the game.

My graphics card is an AMD Radeon RX 470.

So, the actual problem is that the aliasing is very annoying. Every time I go by a detailed object (for example a garden plant) the objects details against the background make it look like the objects is flickering. The objects isn't flickering, it just looks like it, I hope you understand what I mean.

I've been looking in the Graphic Rules files for anything that would help me, but I haven't found a solution. There's nothing else to tweak in there, that could help me, as far as I can see.

I fixed so that the smooth edges setting isn't greyed out, and tried both the highest and lowest, but there's no difference at all. I thought that the smooth edges setting was for anti-aliasing.

I tried a lot of the in-game settings, nothing changes what it actually looks like. It's like the game doesn't even understand that I'm changing the settings.

I tried updating the drivers for my graphics card, but that just made everything worse and also messed up other things with the graphics, for example the game didn't even know what 1920x1200 meant (which is my screen resolution), the picture looked like it had the wrong resolution setting even though it didn't. It also took about 15 minutes to load the game, and there were other problems too. So I went back to my old drivers.

I tried to update the game in Origin, because I read somewhere that EA actually made an update for TS2 about 2-3 years ago. The only thing that happened was that it "repaired" my Graphics Rules files, so that the files looked like they were before my tweaking, so I had to go into the files and change things again.

Does anyone know of any solution? I want it anti-aliased and I want the in-game settings to actually do something.

I don't want to use mods.

  • @SqueamishNerd , you may want to see if someone on Leefish's forum has had the same issues as you. They keep current on getting the game to run on Windows 10 and the various graphics cards that may have issues.
