The Sims 2 keeps crashing

So I recently bought The sims 2 deluxe edition for my PC. The reason why I bought it is because I have the super collection on my Mac and unfortunately it doesn't have all the packs so that's why I decided to buy it for my PC.I am on a Lenovo Laptop running windows 10. The installation was pretty smooth but every time i start up the game and go into create a sim to make my family it says the game has quit unexpectedly. Sometimes the game will just close without an error message popping up. I thought maybe because i was running out of space in my C drive I decided I will download it in my D drive where its still empty. It still crashes so I don't think its a storage problem. Is there any way i can fix this?

  • @Ravenblackbird1 , it could be that the game isn't properly recognizing your graphics card. I have had many players say they can get the game to run to a certain point and then it crashes. Since you didn't indicate if you had applied the 4GB patch or Graphics Rule Maker to allow the game to properly recognize your graphics card, I would suggest doing a Google search to find both of these and apply them to your game. You can find more information about the 4GB patch on YouTube and Graphics Rule Maker can be found on Leefish's forums.

  • Okay I think i got my game working it took a couple hours. I did a fresh install of the game and applied the 4gb update. my game did keep crashing but i think it was because i wasn't doing it right. I forgot to mention there was a black box under my sim but i think i fixed that by just turning shadows off.  I applied  the 4gb update to the deluxe edition and the best of business  expansion pack I have. I also downloaded The graphics Rules Maker and applied my computer settings. It seemed to do the trick! When I clicked the check mark in create a sim my game didn't crash and I was able to move into a house, I quickly saved just in case.

I would like to Thank you for helping me. I currently have more expansion packs and stuff packs coming in the next few days. so I am going to assume I need to this every time I install them?

@Ravenblackbird1 , you might need to do that. I would make a copy of your GraphicsRule.sgr file that you fixed and keep it handy on your Desktop and simply apply it to each Expansion/Stuff Pack you install. I did that with my game and it works just fine. Not sure about the 4GB patch. I think you only have to do that one time.

Please keep me updated on your progress.

  • Okay Thanks I will do that. I did receive more expansions and my game did crash so I did the 4gb patch again, I also got that pink flashing glitch but it went away when I restarted my game. So far my game is working well.
