The sims 2 launcher has stop stopped working

When I play the sims 2 Double Deluxe, it's said The sims 2 launcher has stopped working.  I have windows 7 64bit.

    While not a fix, I did find a workaround.  The accessing the internet in the launcher is causing the problem.  I disabled my network connection and ran the Launcher, no issue, the game started fine.  Then I enabled my network connection, have the internet again and the game still runs.  A pain when I want to play the game, but I can deal with it.  I've been playing Sims 2 for years and don't like the newer versions at all.

I have informed EA of the problem numerous times. Today when I called I was told that EA does not support the Sims2 which is ridiculous. The sims 2 is not the same as 3 and I personally prefer 2 as I have all of the expansions. You should be able to play what you pay for. If they are not going to support the game they should not be selling it, and certainly should not be running ads on the sims2 launcher. The Ads are what make the launcher quit working.!! I hope you are listening EA!! The rep told me today when I called, that nobody plays the sims2 anymore and if enough people leave comments that they will look into the problem. Well I hope that somebody sees this post and that there are still numerous Sims2 players out there that are not happy and cannot get help. If you don't help and support your customers from previosu games, what makes us want to purchase your new releases?!

    That's awful! EA doesn't support it's own games? Yet they have the audacity to run ads for their other Sims versions which is causing the launcher to crash in the first place. I almost suspect they might be doing it on purpose because so many people DO play Sims 2. Many of my friends who play Sims say they hate Sims 3. Now they're running ads for Sims 4? Give me a break. If anything that makes me not want to buy it more. I'm certainly with you crys420e. If they won't support customers from previous games, I'm not giving them money for any newer versions so it can end up the same way! EA needs to fix this problem, instead of running away from it.

    My grandson cried for 30 minutes when we found out that e a games does not support sims 2 anymore and that he would not be able to play his family that he had worked on for the last year.I have spent a lot of money on the sims 2 and we still have all of the disk,but we cannot play them.They should put a notice on the package that you may be paying for a temporary game.

    I've tried the tactic of clicking the 'play' button before the launcher loads, but it just isn't working for me. How would I get in contact with EA to make a complaint?  I love the sims 2, and hate the sims 3, so this is damn right unfair.
