[The Sims 2] SIMS 2 compaitability with windows 8

I could get in, build a house if I saved often ,  but as soon as I try to create a person,   when I try to finish them it freezes?  I tried this fix but nothing changed!??????

there was a post in here abt a week ago where someone had to replace their computer.  that person copied files from hard drive folder from old computer listed as tsbin and tsdata in the ea games files.  they saved the files to program files x86 file on the new computer.  then they downloaded the games.  THANK YOU!!!! this worked perfectly for me!!!!! i was able to download all of my games with expansions and play unlimited hours of sims 2. 

I have been playing Sims for over 4 or 5 years now and well, I have got the base game for Sims 1, base game for Sims 2 and the majority of the expansion packs and the base game for Sims 3. I really enjoy Sims 2 and I was so excited to play Sims 3 but my old Vista laptop just wasn't up to scratch for it, so when I downloaded it, it was so slow and buggy. I had to uninstall it and I'm so careless with the discs that I lost it. I also had difficulties with the Sims 2 on my Vista laptop - for example, the create a family crashed after I made a family everytime and crashed out of the blue when you least expected it. 

BUT, I have my own new laptop, Toshiba Windows 8 and I installed my beloved Sims 2 today and when I installed it, I set the compatibility to Windows XP Service Pack 2 and also download the Manager DirectX or something like that after seeing a few people saying that it helped and made it work, so yeah, after downloading all that and yadayada, I went on the Sims, it loaded up pretty fast which is usually a bad thing in my mind but well, I continued, made my own family, settled them into a home and experienced NO problems whatsoever. I was delighted and I'm happy to say that I'm glad that I can finally make my own family - not use the Maxis ones which are boring and in my eyes not the prettiest I've seen.

No doubt my game will probably crash from time to time as it was laggy at moments, but it's been pretty smooth so far and I'm very happy with the outcome!

I'm not going to install any expansion packs for now but when I do I'll let you know how it goes!

What I did to get it to work:

Install Sims, change compatibilty to Windows XP (Service Pack 2)

Download and install Manager DirectX (Google for more info)

Restart my laptop

Ran Sims (I did get a notification that my Sims was not compatibile with my laptop but I went ahead and continued without researching. It still worked)

Unfortunately Sims 2 expansion packs or additions do not work on my laptop, I've tried. Actually, I installed Sims 2 Open for Buisness and managed to get on the game, but I quitbefore I done anything and then restarted my laptop and when I tried to get back on my Laptop claimed there was no DVD/CD inserted when there clearly was, I also gave it a clean but the results were always the same, even with other expansions. And I installed Celebrations and Teen stuff and when I tried to play, it said it wasn't compatible even when I changed the compatibility. I hope I don't get bored of the Sims 2 as the expansions really give it that extra boost! But everything else is working great and I'm currently making my own town full of unique features. I was going to download custom content (not a lot) but The Sims 2 site no longer exists... WHY?!

I tried this, and it works! 😕mileyvery-happy: So in order to make this work, a little bit more sorted:

1. Get the old files named TSBin and TSData from a computer that has a working edition of Sims 2.

2. Put these over in Program Files (x86).

3. Install Sims 2 and expansion packs/stuff packs if you got any.

Edit: I have every expansion pack except for Apartment Life, and 4 stuff packs: Teen Style (What I think it's named), IKEA stuff pack, Home and Garden stuff pack and Family stuff pack (I'm not sure of all the names, I just translated them from Norwegian, so they might be incorrect.

did not work  for me the game still crashes need another solution

I'm surprised at how many of us still want to play this installment, and I'm also surprised about the little support it gets from EA and Maxis. I have always loved The Sims 2, but it never got along with any of my computers, and now that I have a more than adequate laptop, I still can't enjoy it without interruption!

I've tried bypassing the Installation Update crashing, with transferring old TSBin and data files of TS2, roughly (2.7gb) and then installed all the EP's with no problem. Ran in compatibility mode(WinXP3). My heart about dropped with excitement... and then, CAS crashed! Then I came back to read about you folks with Managed Directx, downloaded that, it didn't do anything.

I want my Sims, **bleep** it! Please somebody ride in here on a white stallion and HELP US OUT!!!

I'm another Sims2 fan and can't get it to work. The basic game works without any trouble, but as soon as I install any of the addons, the games crashes right before the intro movie starts. It goes back to Windows and gives me an error message, but without any text in it! I've tried the fixes people have suggested here, but no joy. Anyone else had that weird empty error message?

I have managed to create 1 sim since I got my new laptop which came with windows 8 over a month ago, but everything else works perfectly fine..

I know that is the same exact thing that's happening to my game. Except it gets worse and worse every day. Now I can't do anything. The screen goes black when the town loads. :catsad:
