The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection - Stuck in Low Resolution

Hi all,

I am running The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection on Windows 8.1 with an AMD Radeon R9 290. When I load the game, the resolution is stuck at 800 x 600 with no option to change, and none of the advanced graphics options are visible. I assumed this was because the game thinks that I have a really old video card, and I followed instructions to add the card's details into the Video Cards.sgr file for "Apartment Life" (I heard you need to modify the file in the latest expansion, and I believe that's the one?), but that did not change anything.

I also attempted to download the game's patches from a mirror site to see if that would fix the issue, but all of the patches say "This game is not installed on your computer". My guess is that it has to do with Origin moving the install directory to Origin Games, but that's just a guess.

Anyone have any input? If there's already a thread for this, please link me so I can check it out.
