Update: I'm in the process of testing out the data execution prevention fix. The game loaded from my previous save, with my very large downloads folder (3+Gbs). I was able to enter neighborhoods with no flashing objects or pink textures. Then I loaded a house that had crashed on me within a few minutes previously. Here I was able to enter build mode and fiddle with quite a few things, then buy mode. The game crashed in buy mode, but I would say I played a good 2 hours before it happened, and that's considerably longer than I've been able to play before (like about 15 minutes). I restarted the game, was able to load the same house, make more changes and save them, then the game crashed again in buy mode after a much shorter time the second time. A little disappointing but I'm going to start to trim my downloads folder and see if that helps. I have the 4Gb patch in place, and the memory allocation fix. Just did the trademark fix because the game wasn't creating a config file for me. As soon as it does, I'll recheck the 4Gb patch and also my graphics cards rules and make sure those are still in place.

@aprilraven , please keep us updated. Something else I remembered is that you may need to cull your CC (if you play with any) as that can also cause your game to crash. Sometimes some of the file names are too long or have odd symbols in them titles that can cause the game to not recognize the CC or can hinder the game from running properly.
- aprilraven6 years agoRising Traveler@Tremayne4260 I definitely will. 🙂 I thought of all that CC too, and am starting the process of checking to rule in/out anything bad. Also still working to get the game to recognize my graphics card. But being able to play for that long gives me hope that I'll solve the problem eventually.
- MsPigglyPooh6 years agoSeasoned Ace@aprilraven I ended up putting back in The Sims 2 store content and so far my game is still running without crashing. I haven't had a crash since I used the DEP fix. I haven't tried any actual CC despite store content being seen that way, but I'm hoping this gives hope.
