The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection Uninstalled Itself
Hey i have The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection on the ea app that i got from origin years ago since i had the sims 2 on disc before but couldn't get it to run so support gave me Ultimate Collection when i asked for help. Using the fixes in these videos, I got it to run beautifully on windows 10; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFBC4KY3fbY , https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kP-KckVVjOg&t=9s , https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S4BNcHyRrwc&t=14s . Just in case anyone wants help with getting the Sims 2 to work on Windows 10. It was working fine for days, but then one day I loaded up my PC and the Sims 2 icon was missing from my desktop, the game wasnt showing up when i searched for it and according to Ea i didnt have it installed anymore. I checked my documents/ea games and checked program files/ea games and everything was still installed. The actual install had not been uninstalled, just the icon which made my PC and origin believe it was no longer installed. I still have no clue what could have caused this. I tried "installing" it again on the ea app but it kept getting to 99% immediately (since all the files were still installed and it recognize that) and then saying it didnt have permission and pausing the download. I then shut down and restarted the PC, tried again, same result. I even tried screwing with the permissions on the files and the ea app, nothing. I also downloaded a steam game to confirm I could download other games to my :C drive still. I was on the verge of tears, because the Sims 2 I had fought so hard to be able to play on my custom built Windows 10 Gaming PC, had seemingly been stolen from me for good. Finally, as a last resort I got the idea to do a system restore to an auto restore point that windows made the day before, when the Sims 2 was installed and working correctly. After restoring, I tried installed the Sims 2 again, it immediately worked and my game was restored with all my data intact, using the same files that were never deleted. Though I did have to redo SOME of the fixes from the videos I linked because some of them were done through the actual icon/app itself and some were about editing the graphicsrules.sgr file which got reset upon me attempting to restart the game when it finally "downloaded" again, as if I didn't clearly have it installed still. My point here is that this was an incredibly terrifying experience and now I can't restart my PC without fearing my beloved Sims 2 will have been taken from me again, and perhaps this time I won't be lucky enough to fix the glitch and restore the icon. Literal definition of "new fear unlocked." So if anyone has any idea on what the hell happened here and what I can do, if anything, to prevent this from happening again, or if EA could perhaps ensure this doesn't happen again in the next EA app update, and not just to Sims 2 but all Sims games as I saw some articles on here talking about Sims 4 apparently uninstalling itself for someone else. Would love to hear anyone's educated guesses on what exactly happened and what exactly can be done to ensure this doesn't happen again. I dont want to hold my breath everytime I load up my desktop.
- @neoromanempire I have seen this happen in cases where there is a registry cleanup program (such as CCleaner, for example) on the system. TS2 (or Ultimate Collection, specifically) has registry entries pointing to non-existent executables to ensure the game recognizes all packs. Normally, this is not an issue, but cleanup programs see a registry entry that points to nothing and delete it, effectively "uninstalling" the game. Is it possible that the same happened on your system?
