@jo-annevaneeden , if you have a PS3 and it is PS2 compatible the game should still play if your disk isn't damaged in any way. Afraid PS4 is not cross-compatible with older disks. You could have your local computer/appliance repairman take a look at your PS2 to see if the laser may need to be realigned as someone else suggested.
In regards to obtaining the game, EA/Maxis no longer produces the disks for the game and your best bet is to try E-bay or Amazon to see if they still have copies available as used games or maybe even new copies.
