Wouldn't your account and all game progress get deleted when you cancel your subscription? The way things are now, you can pick up wherever you left even if you play intermittently. I imagine a subscription service might interest people with plenty of time to play daily or at least regularly and maybe not that much disposable income to buy all packs.
