Ummm... I was part of a group that might have made it up... I'm not sure. Maybe I came across the term back in TS2 when some writers whose work I would read would use the term. I think I'm just part of the group that writes about game-aware Sims. It does go back at least to TS2. Some people also talk about camera-aware Sims (ones that look up at the camera all the time) and I write a lot about player-aware Sims, ones that seem like they're trying to get the player's attention and communicate with the player.
Today in my University Challenge game, one of the Sims that I'm not allowed to control (the game is like an ISBI in that way) had to use the bathroom, and he wanted my help. He raised his hand, looked right at me through the monitor, and said, "Sul, sul!"
I had to tell him he was on his own! Fortunately, he decided to take responsibility for caring for his needs!
