Got a question, since we're all just hanging around. ;)
So, I have issues with details and making sure things make sense. I let my sister read my short story from simswriters (April contest). Here's the link: Daring to Care. She liked it alright (I read between the lines), but she was confused about why the girl did well in elementary school, but then her grades started to slip. I know I'm giving away the story, but I don't care. Most of you have read it anyway. <3
So, she asked how she didn't know how to read. Her take on it was the girl went all the way through elementary until her "cuteness" wore off. Well, to me, that's around 2nd/3rd grade...about the time you are continuing your course in reading. I know my daughter is reading, but she still struggles. So, I just took it from that.
Anyway, if I were a bad parent and I didn't care, I'd leave her alone at this age (around 8/9 yrs old). So, I guess I left it to the reader to determine that all on their own? I mean, I only had 800 words max. So, of course, I had to cut things out.
I tried to explain that to her and she mostly understood. There are so many reasons someone struggles to learn to read, so it never occurred to me that someone would question that.
I guess what I'm trying to ask is how do you all make sure your story makes sense? Or do you worry about it that much? I am seriously thinking about doing a mystery for my NaNoWriMo writings in November. Also, I struggle to ensure my Ramsey story makes sense, too. However, it's about a game, so we know that will never happen. ;)
