Disappearing birthday cake

Birthday cake was baked. Went to check on finished product and it disappeared. Now i can't age preteen to continue pirate quest.
Also i used to be able to allow Sims to die and that disappeared.

When you try aging preteen does it offers to use 1 BD cake?
