Downtown Development sim problem
[ Spoiler ] My second sim cannot be selected to search for granite in the Downtown Development task, it as been OK until this mornings change. I also purchased to have Joe the Geologist to help.

Hopefully this problem has already been resolved for you.
When doing Downtown Development, I also experienced this.
I found it very frustrating until I realized I only needed one additional shard of glass, or one additional piece of granite to complete that 24-hour work permit day, or that stage of the building, then it made sense that only one Sim was needed to do the work.
I hired Joe the Geologist too and he might very well be the culprit (so to speak), as he collects those items - along with your Sims - so in a way he frees up a Sim to do something else, especially near the end of each 24-hour work permit day, or near the end of each stage of the building.
In other words: It's likely to happen again, just keep grinding and the work will get done.
