I had the same issue and got not help resolving it from EA or any other users. Your post is one of two others I have seen from anyone with the same issue. I got tired of waiting for a resolution so I deleted the rooms to take what I could from the build then demolished it. When I went to rebuild after the most recent update, the unfurnished home option for the XL lot was no longer an option, just a plain desert lot so I went with that and moved on.
