How can I delete some rooms on the top floor?

I have an L shaped house and I wish to put a top floor on only half. How do I do it? I tried to delete a room on the end of the bottom floor but it would not do it as the top floor os shadowed as a potential room. It just tells me to delete the room above first....HOW?

Here's a link for a post the"girl who games" has on creating and deleting rooms. Its for the first floor, but it should translate to the upper floors.

Thank you for trying to help.

Unfortunately no go. The top floor just wont go, it remains attic like as when you first build the top floor, no roon there but ghost walls.
