I am unable to place the "magazine stack"

For the "two and a half Sims" quest you must read a magazine. I'm unable to place the "stack of magazines" required because the borders for placement appear to be infinite. I'm sure it's just a simple code error, but I only have 2 days or I lose my "prizes".
