Have you tried positioning the sim close to the locomotive before starting the task?
If I remember correctly, I had to put my sim next to the locomotive before the blue footprints went away
Also, hard close (double click home and swipe off the application), restart device and start again, just like Martha said and if that doesnt work follow the link Martha gave and contact Firemonkeys - or contact them via the game the "..." button on the bottom of the screen, and "?"
