Why is it when I am in the lead and win a prize it will not start a new event until my rival catches up, then when they are leading the new events just load and I don’t get to catch up. I’m playing on an Amazon fire tablet

The new day starts the same time every day. The rival will not finish the day until your daily reset time.
The reset time depends on when you started the chase the first day. Be aware of your reset time.
The event always starts 7 AM UTC, first time you open the game after 7 AM UTC on the start date, that will be your daily reset time. If you're on the east coast of USA 7AM UTC is 2 AM EST, so you might want to wait to open your game until 7 or 8 in the morning, rather than waking up in the middle of the night to check your game.
