Unable to advance in police career.

I am working on advancing my Sims in the police career. I have reached level 6 yet I can't build police car or advance in any way. Help, please?

Has your sim also reached level six? If so and you can't choose a specialty then you probably need to contact support. You can do this by clicking on the question mark located in the game menu. You can only choose a specialty when your sim is at level six in the occupation.
Enter the occupation-menu, the one showing all the details about your sims jobs and school. From this menu you can select a specialization for your sim.
My sim has reached level 6. I specialized, but need VIP points to build squad car. That isn't exactly fair.
You do not need to be a VIP to build the squad car. What message are you getting?
You might have forgotten to tap on the flashing icon over a building, house, or venue to complete the building process. That would be the reson for getting a message that you need to be a VIP to build the squad car, since you can't have more than one thing under construction at the same time unless you are a VIP.
When I tap on police car the VIP screen comes up. It says I need VIP points to build car. Nothing else is being built.
