There is a workaround that you could try:
- Do not tap on your Sim's portrait as it will make the game crash. Instead, summon the Sim who is stuck to Parkside via something like interacting with the plants outside the workshop (tend, talk to, etc.)
- Let it idle for a couple minutes on the Parkside screen
- Hard restart your game (go to the app switcher and close it)
- Launch the game again
- Upon relaunch, try to tap on your Sim's portrait to end the shift.
If this doesn't work, please contact support. Follow the instructions in this post: [Guide] Finding your Player ID / How to send a Help Ticket In-Game.
If you can't access the game, contact support through this link: https://help.ea.com/en/help-home/
Thank you for your suggestions. I'm reluctant to leave my home lot and go to Parkside - another player who had the same bug, after changing locations a number of times, now can't open her game at all. I can still play my game to a certain extent - I can host parties on my home lot, and complete the daily tasks I can do there.
I did contact EA support who eventually said there was No Fix. Is it possible to get my game rolled back to before the bug or are EA not doing this any more?
