Additional feedback i filled out a bug report on this a couple days ago but got no response and I can no longer find it.
I put some of my items in storage to make room for party items, after the party I tried to put the items back where they were & they no longer fit. I tried removing all items around the area & nothing has worked. It's like the red around the items cover more area than they used to. This is very frustrating because I want to put my hot tub & other items back on the back patio where they were.

I don't know what else to do here. I've sent 2bug reports on this issue and have gotten no answers. Navigating this help site is so confusing & I can't seem to get somebody who can help. This is so frustrating. I still cannot fit my items in where they were & the only way to get them in there now is to have to clear more land and I'm up to 12605 Simoleons to clear a piece of land & that takes forever to accumulate. Why would these items fit before & now they don't? Why should one item fit perfectly & when I remove item temporarily & try to put it back in its place it takes up more squares on all 4 sides (so it's not even close to fitting). I wish I would have never had a party & put items in storage to make more room because now it has just screwed up my whole patio. Can someone please help me & the others having this problem, fix this? I am losing all incentive to play if I have to play for days to get more land so I can put my hot tub in my back yard.
@plutjen I'm just going to guess what I think is happening here since theres no pictures: you're trying to put an object in a spot that is surrounded by other objects and now it wont go back because of space issues
Take a screen shot showing the design and the build mode slots for the area you're decorating. Then delete it all. Place your main object and then decorate around it. If you have all the decorations around and try to place the main object, every thing will be red so it seems like it's taking up more space. For example, if you have a plant on your yard and try to put a tree over it, the whole area will show as red. But if you place the tree first the plant can fit underneath
I used to have a courtyard that had to be deleted and replaced every time I changed it because things were too close and one object doesn't align with another
If I'm totally off on your issue, please post some screen shots to help me better understand
