The AI of unplayed sims in your household sucks. Kids kinda work and do stuff, but my two sims' husbands don't do anything. Now they are standing in the bathroom and won't move, my sim wants to recharge energy but can't, because she requires privacy, which the two dumb heads don't understand. So I'm probably gonna divorce them, because I've had enough of them.
