Not being able to exit create a sim

Hi. I accidentally clicked the little green plus to create a new sim and add it to my current household. I found I wasn't able to exit at all. So I was basically trapped and forced to create a sim I didn't want. I was saving my last spot for a baby and now there is no way I can get rid of the new sim other than making someone move him into their household or retiring him. Both will take awhile. 

Please make it possible to exit "create a sim". There is no reason why we shouldn't be able to do that. This sucks.
