Sims not regenerating energy

I'm having issues with two of my sims, they are not recharging their energy every 3mins. The timer just stays at zero. My only options for regenerating their energy bars are using the bed, toilet, washroom and tub. Anyone else experiencing this? Also every time they finish doing any activity it doesn't show me the check mark plus I can't even add new traits because the option is greyed out even if they're doing nothing.
