This is how I do it, there might be different or better ways.
1) find the thread you want to link.
2) in the address bar, select it and copy it
3) go to the question where you would like to link it.
4) click on the reply button
5) In the compose window, click on the link icon.
6) Paste the address you previously copied into the URL field.
7 optional) you can change the text or add instructions but if you aren't sure what you are doing, don't.
8) submit

@BlueWizardRob Thank you so much!! I wanted to answer someone's question, but I really needed to be able to give a link. You're so good at explaining things. Thanks for the pic too! That helped.
@BlueWizardRob Is spot on, but for anyone on a tablet or smartphone, you can copy the URL and then when you go back to the thread you want to paste the link in, compose your post and press the screen to bring up the ‘past’ option and press it. The URL will be linked automatically.
