Yikes 1700? So what is the prize for the last step besides coins to buy boxes? And do you have to save all those coins until they hit 1700 and then buy boxes?

The last prize is the new double door/window set shown right next to the quest. You also get the 34 boxes you can buy with 1700 coins. No, it doesn't look like you have to save them all up until the end. It is keeping track on the quest "card".

It's random. In the gaming industry it is called a loot box. Gaming companies love them because they entice you to spend real money for a small chance at the big prize. Most game players hate them.
I got the hot tub on my second "box" of that event. It's all just luck and random numbers.
- How or when are you supposed to get the luxurious doors and windows ? I keep clicking on the event and it won't open and talking to tech is a waste of time.
