Tips: Throwing the best parties

As a newbie, I've discovered a few things that really help me when throwing parties. Heavy-hitter Sims probably already know this stuff, but since I'm still learning, I thought I'd share what I've learned and also ask for tips (and corrections) from the wiser players!

PARTY PREP:
I was appalled the first time I threw a party, because I wasn't expecting to have to rearrange my furniture and decorations on the fly in order to accommodate party items. And I had to do it fast, because guests were already showing up. Embarrassing! And worse, the party decorations completely clashed with my design motifs.

Solution: First, I compared the available party items for each party theme (which we can view well ahead of time in the build menu) and chose the one that's most complimentary to my house. I eliminated the concert theme right away, because all that equipment is an eyesore in my art-deco-inspired home. I eliminated the birthday party theme because I don't like the color choices of the balloons and presents. I chose the studio theme because the available items best matched my home design and available space.

Next, I considered each studio party item and spent time planning where each item would go. The mural and photo wall hangings are exceptionally large, so it's important to clear a full wall for each. That's very difficult to do if it's not taken care of in advance.

Once I planned placement, I rearranged furniture to make room for the party items BEFORE I hit "Host party." Then after I started the party, I could quickly place the party items and welcome guests with no stress.

CAREER/HOBBY ACTIVITY INCENTIVES:
When I search for a party to go to, I keep my eye open for events that offer the best activity incentives for the greatest amount of my Sims (denoted by the blue or orange briefcase and puzzle piece beneath "Ideal Attendees" in each party description). That way, when each of my Sims attend, she has opportunity to earn lots of career/hobby points. If a party offers no incentives for my Sims, I skip it and find one that does.

I reasoned, if I search for parties this way, other players probably do, too. When I throw a party, I want to offer the best activity incentives I can for my guests. Question is, how do I do that?

Solution: I'm still figuring this out, but I learned career/hobby incentives are made available to guests by placing as many career/hobby items I can manage to fit in my home (tastefully). One item = blue briefcase or puzzle piece and the lowest points for interaction. Two or more items for each career/hobby = orange icons and higher points for interaction. The more career/hobby items you offer, the more icons appear in your party description, the more guest can earn while attending your party, and the more guests you attract!

Unfortunately, all this may only help so much because of the party guest limit. But better parties = better points and faster leveling for everyone. That's something to celebrate! 🎉🥂

I love to analyze, test and evaluate and share what I find.  I. hope that others find it helpful and interesting.

I'm not nearly so expert in design and fashion.  I simply start with what I like and then borrow heavily from the real experts here on the forums.

    Hello aga

I have some questions about Leveling Up    at Parties

(hopefully when they are not Crashing 💣  🙄)

Who helps to Level up- the Host  or the Party Guests or both?

Does the Host need to be at the their own party to help

What causes the party to Level Up- the group interactions, doing the Career / Hobby items, or just interacting with individual guests, and/or giving out Stickers?

What is the Goal or Rewards of Leveling Up at a party? I assume it must benefit both host & guests?

I usually only have 12 Stickers to give out, because I give out 3 for my Daily-To-Do list.  Sometimes I have to give out stickers that don’t apply ie. Silly or Scary to someone who is neither, but that’s all I have left. Hopefully no one gets offended 😬 or is that not good party etiquette?

I tried to do a party chat, but I can’t type fast enough on my iPad,

but I did Thank the host & said Hello to those on chat,  I even learned how to say Hello in French (I Think??)

I don’t mean to be rude or boring, but I’m not sure I’m fast enough to keep up with some of you party animals 😉😂 j/k

    TIA  ~ kat 😘❤️

** Also, these are great tips, shouldn’t it be put on the

“Threads you don’t want to miss out on” ?   Jmho

  • Both the host and the guest help the host level up.  Basically any activity that has a party balloon will help the party level up.  In addition, for party guests any activity that has a career or hobby icon helps the party level up.  Guest actions earn more party XP than host actions but they only get 10 and then they have to eat cake.  Hosts actions earn less but they use regular energy, which can be refreshed in the usual ways.  Hosts also get points for social introductions and actions which have no cost.  So hosts earn less per action but essentially can earn unlimited party points for the party as long as they are willing to spend the time.  Guests earn more party points for each action.

All of the actions you listed help the party level up except giving stickers.  We do that just to help each other earn gems.

The party rewards increase as the party levels up.  A level 10 party earns everyone gold, tickets and gems.

People don't get offended.  They need 6 of the "offensive" sticker to get full gem rewards just like they need 6 of the good categories of stickers.

    Thank you @BlueWizardRob

I always appreciate your taking time to answer my endless stream of questions!

I hope someday EA /Sims makes some cool Blue Wizard Clothing 😉

  • @Here4SnacksStrange how I always land on your post! Stalker friend! I do have a question, do you have to have all of your Sims at your party? How do you alter the name of your party? Do your Sims count as the total number of people that are able to come to the party?

I try to attend parties of players that I do NOT know just to see if they have any questions and now that I am here I also offer this place as a safe, information filled place to hang out. I would like to thank @PaQuilter1 for sharing this place with me at one of her parties! I would also like to thank @VintageStarlette for taking me on as a friend when most certainly her friend list was full.  I thank all who have made me one of your friends and made me feel valued here! I would @ you all but I would mess up your ID's you know who you are 😉😍

@JulesDarling Ha! We all are a little stalkish here 🤠 Before my parties crashed I would make all my sims do hobbies so they’re all present when I throw a party. One sim hosted but they’re all in the house, however since my parties bug out I now leave the host in the house while the others I ‘call over’ to complete their hobby/career objectives since you get more hobby/career points doing your own party compared to a friend’s (a friend’s payout like 60 points while yours is double, not all just once for each hobby/career.) As for friends parties I hav3 enough cake slices that I use all the party energy on sims struggling to get one type of sticker while the others I do 3-4 actions before switching to bring in a new sim. 😩 I suck at explaining so I hope that makes sense, sorry if it’s gibberish 😰

  • Naww nothing to worry about I read gibberish 🧐 @Here4Snacks ! Thank you! I have only hosted two parties and there was such a difference between them. I kept all of my Sims at home until it reached ten and then was social in the chat and then... lol sent two of them to work. Now I know a little more 😉 TY again 🌹🌹🌹
