What happens if you don't repair broken items?

You can’t put away items in your inventory when they are broken. They need to be repaired before they can be removed. Also, if they are broken, you are unable to use the interactions that usually come with them to use in events.

The unfixed items remain there, but the interaction options aren’t available. There is an icon to show that it would be able to be used if it wasn’t broken.

I have a question related to broken items:

Why do they break so frequently?

I have only been playing a few days but my items break ALL the time. It is a bit frustrating. Is this normal?
