Indicators on main forum page to show which topics have new messages

The old forum made it easy to see when new topics or posts were made without having to click into every area - I don't see that here which is bit of a downgrage - I thought this was supposed to be be...

If only this was an option - remembering the link is impossible. (I've made it a start-up page on my browser instead of relying on memory.) 

Is there a way to make this show only the most recent in the last week?
