"Intel" post on fortress attack

When I click on my base on the hub, I get this post. It says "start the viral attack as soon as the fortress shield is de-activated". WRONG. Have low level offense knock down what they can (pre viral attack), then viral injection, and heavy hitters finish off the fort.

The message isn't intended as guide on how to defeat the fortress. The strategy you describe is used by almost every alliance, although sometimes big hitters also do a pre-viral hit and then a first viral and sometimes a 2nd one. It will depend upon the relative sizes of the fortress and the low bases offenses as well as the level of the high offense attacks.
