Moderators have no knowledge about internal discussions or investigations. Don't expect any developments to be done quickly and expect to see them tested on an existing PTE (not necessarily the current one) before general release.
My guess is as good as yours as to how long all this would take, mid 2022 seems a reasonable target if it is to be developed and fully internally tested.
