http://www.ea.com/help should give you some steps to take.
However, others have tried and failed to sort out the issue. Once an email account is used, it needs to be still available unless you set up other verification methods. Very old accounts don't have these set up so are not recoverable.
This is an EA problem/User problem generally and not game specific as their are examples of players locked out of bought games on Xbox etc that can't be resolved.
