@kitehn As far as I'm aware it's after the events of the first game. In a dev video they state that the bodies in Cause and Effect are the civilians gathered up during Colony in the first game.

As I read it the events on Demeter stranded the IMC fleet, but this fleet was significant and far from vanquished. As part of rebuilding they retreat to Typhon, and have been developing new training techniques and technologies , and this is what Jack Cooper encounters on his adventure.
