(PC, Steam) TF2 Freezing PC randomly when connecting to servers or games

Hi, I'm pulling my hair out currently trying to get TF2 running on my PC Consistently. When I load into a multiplayer game (and rarely, the main menu) the game freezes my entire computer, locking my cursor and requiring a forced restart to get out of it.

This appears to occur completely randomly, as I when I do get into a game I can run it at 144fps with no stuttering or issues, so I doubt it's a hardware issue. I've searched everywhere for fixes and so far I've tried all of the following to no avail:

  • Verify integrity through Steam.
  • Clear cache through EA.
  • Ran the game in admin mode and compatibility mode (for both windows 7 and 8).
  • Updated graphics drivers.
  • Lowered graphics settings many times.
  • Adjusted server (London, Frankfurt, etc.) for MP.
  • Reinstalling the game to two different drives.

Below are the specs for my PC:

  • Intel(R) Core(TM) Ultra 5 225F 3.30 GHz
  • 16gb RAM
  • MAG B860 TOMAHAWK WIFI (MS-7E39)
  • GeForce RTX 4060

I think it's something to do with my PC reaching the servers as the game seems to crash either when finding the data centres or joining a game. If I undo the fix found in this guide (https://medium.com/@nart70/titanfall-2-how-to-fix-connecting-to-respawn-servers-bug-1a6adfc4af4d) the game appears to run fine, however I can't find a data server, meaning I wouldn't be able to play MP regardless.

Any advice or similar experiences would be appreciated. Thanks!

  • As you said previously if your pc crashes, then try using full virus scan on your pc, if that didn't work try re-downloading system. I think there maybe a miner or other high technology virus on your pc that windows didn't detect so if windows anti-virus didn't helped try using a Dr.web (he requires keys but you can find free keys) or any other free anti-virus which I don't recommend because they can be viruses themselfs. And try using vpn in my case it helped.

I've attempted every step you've mentioned here. Ran multiple scans through multiple different anti-viruses, all of which didn't find anything. Tried the VPN method which didn't do anything unfortunately.

I seriously doubt it's a virus as I have no other issues in any other game or application on my PC other than Titanfall. The freeze always occurs whilst A) connecting to an in-game server or B) connecting to the data server. By changing my system variables back to default, the game boots just fine, but I don't have any connection to servers. I don't have any interest in TF2 singleplayer but love the multiplayer. Would it be a better idea to take this issue to a general tech-support forum, and could you recommend one if so? Thanks for the suggestions thus far. 🙂
