Response: PC graphics problems (titanfall)

Hey guys,

Just responding to your post regarding problems with the graphics card driver when playing titanfall leading to screen tearing?

My problem: I downloaded the game, opened it up and online there was insane screen tearing which made it un-playable

My solutions (attempted):

1. put all game specs to 'low', turned off anti-aliasing, turned v-sync to double buffering, and put texture and resolution to the lowest. The problem persisted

2. tried updating my graphics card(s)? i'm using an AMD Radeon(TM) HD 7670M in a Windows 8-64 bit laptop? and it wouldn't update fully using the 'autodetect download and installer' on their page. All items were 'successfully installed' except one called the video accelerator (can't completely recall but it was along those lines and sounded to be the one part I needed). The problem after restarting wasn't resolved.

3. I looked in 'Device Manager' and found under 'display adapters' that I had two installed? the AMD Radeon(TM) HD 7670M as well as the Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000. Initially I just right clicked and searched online for updates for both, to which they said they were both fully updated even though i'm sure they aren't.

After this I thought the computer might be running the game through one of the lower graphics cards and ignoring the other? which I assumed would be the Intel 4000? so I tried disabling it, to force the computer to recognise only the other one, but the problem persisted.

4. I tried un-installing both graphics drivers via the 'Device manager' but they seemed to re-appear when I closed the box.

- i also tried removing all AMD programs, but they seem to still be there..

Problems encountered on the road:

a) After installing the AMD driver auto detect system via the AMD page, It wouldn't run until I closed the computer and let it cool.. after which it eventually ran (to no success). However, after this I wasn't able to open up my Mozilla firefox.

I looked through installed programs by date and it said I had installed a 'Mozilla server maintanence' program, which I assumed was the reason for the lack of response, but couldn't undo. How do I remedy this? I've tried looking up the 'profiles' in the program files and deleting them to force it to create a new one, and it wouldn't allow it saying I didn't have administrator permission (I only have one account, which is administrator).

b) alongside my Mozilla not working, I can't seem to open my iTunes either now. I tried to do a backdate to the only saved point (march14, 4:30) which was before all this happened.. and after 20 min backdating it said it failed because an 'anti-virus' program was protecting a file from being removed'.. I know I don't have any anti-virus software that i'm aware of so i'm thinking this is just a virus protecting itself?

c) When running the 'dxdiag' it comes up with a message saying it encountered problems with running Direct3D, and when it prompts me to fix it it closes, meaning i have to by-pass it and continue.

I also had a lot of problems saving my dxdiag results as it all just froze every time, but it seems to have been resolved by running a Microsoft clean scan?

Solutions:

a) I've heard that to fix this all you need to do is go into the catalyst control centre (which i have) and Under the POWER section, select SWITCHABLE GRAPHICS APPLICATIONS SETTINGS.  Here it will list all software on your computer. Titanfall wasn't listed.  Select the ADD APPLICATION button and locate Titanfall.exe file under Origin Games folder.  Under the GRPAHIC SETTING Section, select HIGH PERFORMANCE. Select APPLY and that's it.

- unfortunately, my 'Catalyst Control Centre' refuses to open saying there's an error.

I know this is all a lot of detail, but hopefully the problem was in me trying to fix it itself and you guys can see what I've done wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated

The following is a link to my dxdiag results via a 'paste' link you provided: http://pastebin.com/bsm63bxQ

Cheers
