I second most (if not all) of the previous suggestions and would like to add:
- The whole game (not just the visiting friends clock) should have a 23-hour (or maybe even 22-hour) day, to minimize "slippage." Farmville has this and, when I used to play it, it was very helpful.
- You should be able to park vehicles on top of parking lots and put them on top of roads!
- It would be great if buildings could be rotated 270° or 360° degrees, so you could set up more realistic neighborhood and maximize road usage.
- More characters need permanent 2-hour tasks.
- Cletus' farm desperately needs a 1-hour crop.
- Have a permanently available alphabetically ordered friends list (like the one you have during events for a "competitive" effect) to make it faster to access a particular friend than it is by having to scroll through the friendvilles during non-event times.
I could add more, but I'll stop here for now!
