Yes we can, watch out for the invite to not visit each other!- Hi everyone, I have played and read the forums for a long time now, but I wanted to finally say hello and thank a lot of you for providing great information and entertainment :)
I was working on a few theories myself as I have a few towns and a few friends with different visit results. I cannot visit friends in my main level 25 town created last summer or any of my "alt" towns that were created before this update around Halloween and one also around Christmas.
I registered a new town in Origin yesterday that was the default non-logged account on an iPad 3. It had been played a few times (had a Thanksgiving balloon and a few buildings-last time servers were down haha) but that's it.
It's currently the only town of my own I can visit and was never played on an iPhone, iOS 5.
I have one friend I can access who created a town on an iPhone 4S iOS 6 and has only played on that device. He started playing around Halloween. He is level 25 and rather compact but I'm not sure that's the issue.
My accounts I can't access have been played on an iPhone 4 iOS 5 and also the iPad 3 iOS 6. I also played them on several other devices when I had to go through several iPhone exchanges a few months ago and briefly on an iPhone 5 iOS 6 just for fun. (That sure was nice and fast)
My sister has been playing since the beginning on one device iPhone 4 iOS 5 and her account is not working either.
Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone had any other insights or thoughts about variables such as when the accounts were created or registered with origin, or number of devices played on.
I had some thoughts about premium items, Christmas decorations, and having characters on tasks before the update but those do not seem to make a difference as far as I can tell.

Edit: I also noticed that of the few friends I was able to visit today that had Valentine cards to click on, none gave any hearts :( mdfriend wrote:

I added them.- I can't find any real pattern. I updated mid afternoon ET yesterday. Most of my 54 friends pre update are forum regulars. I added 12 friends between about 17:00 yesterday and 02:00 ET today. Eight of them are forum regulars, four are not.
At 02:00 ET today, I could only access one friend's town. I had this friend before the update, and is not a forum regular. Their town is roughly 7x7-ish.
When I woke up at 07:00 ET this morning, I could access five friend's towns. Two are pre-update friends, one is a forum regular, one is not, one has a ~7x7 town, the other at least 10x10. The remaining three are new (post-update) friends, one has a smallish town < 8x8 and is a forum regular, and the other two have > 10x10 towns with one being a forum regular and the other not.
So far, I've logged out and logged back in to Origin and rebooted my iPad. As of ~16:50 (a bit over 24 hours after the update), I can still only access the same five friends I could this morning. I have had no indication of visitors to my town since the update.
By the way, thanks to those who added me last night. I culled a while ago and have been meaning to send invites to many here in this forum. I may send a few more invites out tonight (not that it will do much good). Feel free to decline my friend request if you don't have enough room, or even just on general principal - no feelings hurt :)
I do have to say that overall, my SF seems much more responsive with this update (and no snow). Big decrease in lag, and I've even added quite a bit of decoration on top of new friends and probably 10 outstanding friend requests. We'll see how it looks after EA resolves this issue.
TL;DR - No pattern found, can access 5 of 66 friends, thanks to the regulars who added me, feel free to decline my invite, my SF seems more responsive. - I also have logged out, uninstalled and re-installed from scratch on all devices after doing hard resets and it did not help. I didnt think it would make a difference but I thought it was worth a try, and I wanted to save anyone from the trouble in case they were thinking of doing the same.

Poor Melly. I've been trying since the update and still can't access either of your towns. :(
I've had 23 friends leaving me cards and I've only been able to visit 5 towns.
