No, not a reference to any anime. Just a convenient name to give the Japanese character who teaches karate among other things.

Its still an incredibly abridged version of the manga. I got way more out of reading it. it helps that it was finished after the movie was made, and that it has a proper ending.
Still though, I will always remember the movie for two things: Testuooooooooo! Kanedaaaaaaaaa! :lol:
