You're fine. They are buying the prizes (bank) for donuts, which raises their pie counts.

Are you sure you aren't looking at the RODS number?
You'll see the rods icon, the rods number, the pie icon, and then the pie number. If you just quickly glance you might think that the large number to the left of the pie icon is for number of pies.
NONE of my neighbors have more than 8000 pies.
A number of them have ZERO pies but have 10,000-25,000 rods.
Look closely.
