It's 3.

You get 5 snakes for the 12 hr tasks (Willie/Cletus)
And 10 snakes for the 24 hr tasks (Homer/Ned)

That's the reward for doing the task, but Lisa's task is to free 5 snakes.

It's not unusual to lose a chunk of them, even all of them but I would get a definite number of how many you lost and report it to EA. I've sent a request to EA to explain how this Snake task is meant to work. I'll post their response here once I've got it.

That's great, I would certainly like to hear the answer to that. Everyone seems to be saying different things.

Early on in my other account i had 690 snakes yesterday or so then wen i logged in they were all gone

I'm not talking about Lisa's reward. Lisa gets 3 snakes for that job. But the friend she visits, gets 5 snakes set free. His/her total will drop, but the released snakes are available in that town to be wacked again. They are not gone. They just have to be collected again.
The snakes disappearing after you visit a friend is a glitch. One I hope they fix asap. It's just that with this glitch, a lot of people think it's caused by Lisa's task. It is not.

There's the 5 snakes taken by Lisa (giving a reward of 3 to the person who sent her), which you can immediately get back. And then there's a random number disappearing due to a glitch.

Well, let's hope there's a bug fix soon for this and the stalled xp.

Just tried to deliver eggs. Went to 10 towns and laid one egg each...went from 112 to 82. So basically every snake I whacked this morning.

THIS is something I'm more disappointed about than the whole decorations limit. Because it basically means nobody can actually participate in the event as intended. Because I'm certainly not going to any more friends if I'm at risk of losing THAT many snakes.
