Any point in tapping star spawn? Does it speed up M'nster?

Star Spawn have only generated crafting materials for me, at least so far. Some of us may have an over abundance of them, while others may not... perhaps EA's way of leveling the playing field?

I have gotten candy apples from them... but it's very rare. Like once out of every 60 maybe. Formless Terrors are even more rare, but I have gotten one from them too.
