- Rocky are you accepting neighbors? Would love to check out your town. That is, if you don't mind having a messy neighbor for a while. I'm redesigning everything now that I've finally acquired most of the land
- I looked at the link and wondered "where's the map?" Then finally noticed these words "To see this website, you need to install the last release of the Flash Player and enable JavaScript." Ok, put down the iPad and turn on the computer (groan).
Yes, it's a great map! Thanks, Rocky! - rockyb2006Seasoned Newcomer

Sure thing! Go ahead and add me.
I do want to say, that my town follows the map, but I have modeled my town from another map follower named Bravewall. He is awesome and I followed his design which follows the map. My Springfield Heights is a dumping ground for buildings that don't belong in "real" Springfield, so that area is not accurate, but buildings that belong over there are placed there. Then my upper right area is also for items I want out for bonuses and for things that don't belong as well. But the whole of my Springfield is accurate to the map as best as I can do. I just wish there was a list of buildings because I just recently saw that the Sneed and Feed is on the map and I just came across it by luck. It stinks to have to look over and over at the map to try to locate buildings. - rockyb2006Seasoned Newcomer

Yeah, my phone won't show the interactive map either. I'm on my desktop all the time though, so it's no big deal to see it there for me. Plus it's on a big monitor so you can see it better. :) - I started out pretty hardcore trying to recreate Springfield as closely as I could before giving it up and settling for some very serious zoning. I found it to be too much work trying to find places for buildings not on the map and shifting old buildings around when something new was introduced.
It's not exact, but I feel my Springfield comes close (to the point I was disappointed they didn't free up more land on the other side of the mountains so I could put old Springfield in the badlands where it belongs). If nothing else I'm using the (mostly) square grid format that Springfield is designed around. - i had a go a while after a started the game ( and nuked to clear the way or it) except i gave in after trying to arrange evergreen terrace and the town hall areas etcetc as newer and newer things came out and i concentrated on grouping similar "themed" building together in my newer map design... which im MILES away from completing due to work /life/playing the game etc hahah
- I started out by trying to build my Springfield as close to the map as I could...Then, as the game got more involved and grew....and grew...I gave up. I'm lucky to be able to add anything at this point since every time I try to place anything new, I get the "Congratulations! You have reached the maximum number of .....etc." notice. No way will my town ever be anything like the map...ever.
- Like many others above I started out building my Springfield as close to the real layout as possible but as time went by it started to take way to much time to keep redesigning every time a new building or new land was released so I finally decided to give up on that idea and started to design my very own version of Springfield by building it how I would if I was a town planner (unfortunately I've had to reduce some of the park land and wooded areas recent due to land restrictions and decorating limits), I know that it's not perfect but what town layout is as most things in the real world are a compromise due to several reasons, anyway I'm rambling on now but I will say thanks for the link to the interactive map it looks great.

I posted this question in the Springfield showcase thread, but I received no responses. The general discussion board is the place to be, so I thought I would repost my question:
So, I am following the Springfield Guide map and have my town modeled after it to get the most accurate Springfield I can. The hard part, is when a new building comes out, and I have to search over the entire map to see if I can find the building on it. I was wondering if there is a LIST of all buildings that are on the map. I don't see one on the official page, but I didn't know if anyone had put a list together. It would be extremely helpful.
Here is the map if anyone is interested in following the guide like I do:

It's a mistake referring to this map as if it was authentic. It's not. It is not designed by Matt G.. It is a fan creation.
I have been building my SF to match the opening sequence of the show, since i started.
But the show has no official map, and town features have been illustrated in many, many, variations.
Have fun using any thing you want as a reference, but please do not propagate the misconception that this fan art is "accurate". Anyone's SF is equally accurate.
@REX: Thank you very much for the mention! Here's a pic of my town square, but even this is not as accurate as it could be because the square is drawn differently in various episodes, and we also don't have all the buildings needed.

I'm curious why this bothers you so much? How does this effect your life? No one said this was the end all be all map of Springfield. It IS a good reference for sure, but the fact that it bugs you that people think it's an accurate map is curious, lol. Point me to a better map and I'll use it. But as you pointed out, the layout has changed many times on the show. But when did I say it was the true Springfield?
