ANZAC DAY - LEST WE FORGET

Lest we forget.

I got force-rostered on at work this morning, though, so no dawn service for me.

I've never heard of it. Damn my American education.
I'll be visiting Wikipedia shortly to learn more about it.

Really? No offence but at the dawn service I attended this morning,we paid tribute to American troops aswell by raising your flag. IMO not knowing about it is quite offensive, but it's not ur fault not having a go at you by any means.

ANZAC (australian and new zealand army corps) day is the anniversary of when our forces were deployed to Gallipoli. It was our first big military action, as in 1914 Australia had only been a federation for 13 years ish. They attacked at dawn, which is why we hold a dawn service to remember our fallen heros, as well as the men and women who made it back home.

The service in Melbourne was moving. 45000 were there at 5am, and there was complete silence. Unreal!

The American education system is SERIOUSLY lacking in all departments. A lot of people here don't know what Memorial Day is, much less what other countries celebrate.

That's good man,where I went here on the Gold Coast there was 6000 people and its quite moving when your standing near the bust road/town which is normal loud and really busy, to hear complete silence. Plus to hear the ocean made it even feel and sound so real.

Regardless of how many people there are, I think the dawn service is an incredible experience. Australians together in silence to pay their respect, gives me shivers!

Thank you for the info it was good reading about something I was unaware of what the good people of Australia an New Zealand people did during the war!

Does Australia an New Zealand share a military, or was that a onetime war time move?
