Can be random or neighbors. Neighbors castle must be fully constructed - or you can just see the normal icons. If you can attack, there's a sword/axe icon over the HOUSE or castle(s). Other buildings cannot be attacked (yet?). You get 3 neighbor actions and 5 attacks per neighbor. An attack requires at least 1 nerd (max 10). However you only get a max of 40 nerds initally - so not sure again if it's better to spread the wealth to multiple neighbors or use all for certain neighbors.

If you are under attack, you'll see a shield icon. If the neighbor used dice or their timer for nerds expired (starts at 10 hours and decreases by 1 hour per nerd added) then you'll see the building like how it was before it was 'built' aka destroyed. Clicking the building complete icon restores the building.

If the building was destroyed you still get awards for clearing it. I assume once the shields are cleared, other neighbors/attackers can target those buildings. Already emptied my town 2-3 times since the update launched. Again it's houses only - mansions seem to be not included (Fat Tony's, Burns, Gold house, Wolfcastle) haven't had anyone attack those. But the pumpkin house, gingerbread house can be targeted. I haven't had my volcano lair, frink's lab or Ultrahouse targeted yet either. Simpsons house and Cool Brown house are also discluded. Not sure about the apartment buildings, no one attacked those either. Willie's Shack can be targeted.
