You should create an account otherwise you are playing anonymously and if the game shuts down on you, your progress won't be saved. Also, if you have an account and get a new device, your Springfield is on the server and you can access it. I wouldn't wait much longer with nephew or he may lose his town making an account. If he does lose it making an account, at least he's not that far into the game vs. waiting until level 20 or something.
