Dropping feds instead of tapping gifts when visiting neighbours

When visiting friends I have an icon in the top right corner with a counter of how many feds I have (3 per town and they appear as long as the workshop is built and the neighbour has progressed far enough to collect presents). Clicking that button/icon will drop a fed. You don't have to do anything to "earn" more feds, you will have the option to drop feds or click gifts but you can't do both as each will count as an action.

To get the ability to drop feds, you need to have completed Jingle Bell Wreck pt 9 where Homer has a 1hr Call homeland security task, then you will get a task to send federal agents to other towns x3 (can be completed by dropping 3 in one town). After this you should be able to drop feds when visiting friends. Same as regular friend visits, you'll need the 3 actions available.

EDIT: I rushed the build of the workshop and a couple tasks, so I'm probably a bit early on the Jingle Bell Wreck questline.

Is there a limit on Feds? Can your drop three feds per neighbor or does it cap off like the presents? If you have 100 friends and they all visited you that would double your present count per day. How many presents is a fed worth? One each?

I'm not sure about all limits (I've read in another blog that your own town can have a max of 20 feds at a time but most of my neighbours don't have feds yet).

I haven't encountered any limits other than the 3 per town limit when visiting friends. After 120 feds were dropped, I only receive 1 FP each and no presents.

As Brevis noted, I only dropped feds in towns where they were far enough in the quest line to support it. For me, the fed icon was missing if they weren't far enough.

Yes, I could only do three per neighbour

10FP (30 visits): 2 presents per fed
5FP (30 visits): 1 present per fed
4FP (30 visits): 1 present per fed

Seems like the total number of actions that pay presents differs for some users. Not sure why or if it has to do with where you are in the questline.

So are you saying it's better to drop feds instead of tapping buildings? What if you do a combination of both? Like, collect as many presents as you can until you hit the limit, then start dropping feds. Would this work?

I'm no where near part 9 of the quest where I'd be able to drop feds but this morning when I got up there were two feds in my town and I got a gift from each of them. It was too early in the morning so I wasn't able to read the text that shot up from them so I don't know who dropped them in my town.

That's what I was hoping would be the thing to do but I haven't been able to make sense of what people are reporting so I don't know.
