You can turn the music and sound effects off yourself:
1) Tap the "Building" icon in bottom right of the screen (crossed hammer & saw)
2) Tap the "Info" icon in the top right of the window that pops up (lowercase "i" in a circle, very small, next to "EA")
3) Tap and slide to adjust music and SFX volume
