- The item limited is the biggest threat to the longevity of the game.
- Wow, I've been playing forever and never realized there was a limit. I guess I do t decorate enough lol
- As much as I'd love to have unlimited decorations there's a snag to the dream.
The game already has a hard time maintaining smoothness with the limit we have and I'm running it on an iPad Air. I'm not near the limit either and I have texture issues, and lag. Imagine people who run this game on a phone. The problem only becomes amplified. I run this game on my Samsung Galaxy S4 and lets just the lag is almost unbearable at times.
The real issue is unless they really optimize the hell out of their game engine, it's unlikely the limit will be raised anytime soon. And considering the fact that more land and content is gonna be added, it'll only make the game more prone to these lag and texture issues. Truth be told, this game would've been better suited for a PC.
The only thing we can do right is wait and see what happens. It makes me wonder if this is the reason new ground textures haven't been added yet. It would only make the rendering issues worse.
EDIT: Soemthing I forget to bring up was friend visits. Right now it's damn near impossible to do friend visits for the very simple reason of extremely long load times. If big towns are this heavy to load now, I can't even imagine how bad it'll get with a raised deco limit. Just something to think about. - In order to get rid of the warning, wouldn't they have to completely change how the game is run? I mean, they could easily get rid of the warning itself, but to stop your game from lagging wouldn't they have to get better servers or something?
I've never paid attention to the warnings and my main town is pretty laggy (especially during this event with all the Terrors running around), but it rarely crashes. But I don't bother storing anything to change my designs. I care more about how my town looks than how it runs. I haven't noticed any neighbours removing me, so I don't think I crash their devices either. - jukan00New SpectatorI've no idea why this wasn't bigger news on this forum (this is huge imho) but the item limit has quietly been raised-

Maybe someone could contact EA to discover what the top limit is now. jukan00 wrote:

And what's this "lag" everyone is talking about? I'm at the max decos and I have no issues to speak of. Play exclusively on and iPhone 6 with absolutely no problems. No rendering issues, no excessive load times. Occasional graphical glitches have been a part of this game for as long as I can remember, but do not hinder actual game play. I don't even recall the last time the app crashed.
After I hit the limit, I did a quick audit of my town:
- Changed all single shrubs http://i.imgur.com/lCa38b7.png?1 that were next to each other to these guys http://i.imgur.com/oPO1N5r.png?1 which somewhat ruined the look in a lot of areas.
- Removed any items hidden by buildings (not many to speak of in my town, as I've done this before).
- Removed all fences/decos that were hidden by other items (which will catch up to me when the snow hits and the trees become bare - gaps in fences shall be exposed).
- Removed all training walls that were hidden - will take a hit on Righteousness and bring me back to 4.5 stars. So be it. Don't really care if my town isn't "5 stars."
- Tried thinning wooded areas - painful, couldn't continue that process. Forest areas need a lot of trees, IMHO.
- Still hafta remove the tennis court farm and likely will store all the hidden wailing walls recently acquired (losing bonus % - so be it).
- Next on the chopping block: lamp posts. Not sure I can bring myself to store these, but probably will have to at some point as they are not necessary, since it never gets dark. But logically, light poles belong all over any town.
Regardless, it ain't gonna be enough - as more stuff gets released, I won't be able to store additional items without completely destroying aesthetics. I'd rather hang up my TSTO hat altogether. Perhaps that's an option I should consider more seriously.
Ultimately, I like the way my town looks. Are there an excessive amount of flowers, trees, cobblestone walls, bushes, snapdragons, shrubs, lamp posts and fences? Many would say yes, but they are wrong. Dead wrong. :D My town is freakin' awesome and I don't feel it's necessary to have to continue to play with a gun to my head.
If EA can't/won't increase the limit, how about releasing "extra large shrubs" - extending the size of the regular shrubs. Extended fence panels? Double-length walls? Instead of 1 x 2, give us options for 1 x 4, 1 x 8, etc.
To those that say it isn't possible due to server demands: how many players do you think are actually at 8500 items? I would assume that percentage to be so small that said server demands would be quite insignificant in the grand scheme of things. What percentage have even seen the 4500 warning? People said the same thing about releasing additional land, yet SF Heights came out along with the two most recent strips of land, somehow we are all still tapping away. :?:
To those that have concerns about neighbor visits and the time it takes for a town to load, simply remove or hide those friends who take too long and upset you. There is no shortage of players with crappy, quick loading towns you can add. If any of my neighbors felt it necessary to drop me, I wouldn't mind in the slightest - their choice, their loss :P . And honestly, when was the last time you were able to help a neighbor in terms of the game? E.g. formless blobs were mostly worthless as they didn't gave out event currency. There was no shortage of crafting supplies with this most recent event. Once upon a time, friend visits were an essential part of events. Now, not so much.
So please, EA, take these handcuffs off. Let the designers do their thing.

:P- hey sandwedgeking! its so unfortunate to see the limit was only raised to 8500 from 7500
i'm right there with you on the pain you feel altering and removing things from designs, I went through similar steps when i hit the 7500 limit, and it really took a lot of the joy of this game away. It sucks to have a nagging feeling of "oh maybe i shouldn't put another bush there, i'll have to delete one from over here"
also haven't had any real increase in lag or graphics glitches, and i think your view on neighbors is the same as mine, if it ain't working out for you find another neighbor who suits your play style, and i'll do the same
i'm still ecstatic that they raised it a month or two ago, how about a nice round number like 10,000 now? - @airjordan lives - hello my fellow kindred spirit! :D
When I hit the 7500 limit, I stopped designing. For a long time, my town lay dormant (design-wise) and I couldn't bring myself to start ripping designs because I knew it wouldn't matter. When Elian broke the news about the increase, I really thought I could finish my town, but alas, I feel I've done all I can do for now. 10,000 would be so nice.
I also have a 2nd town that is at the 7500 limit and haven't done jack over there since. I used the 2nd town for designs I couldn't fit in the main town because of the lack of land. Although I'm out of land in town 1 again, I'm not terribly upset - thanks to BarryRiddl, I came to the conclusion that we simply can't have every building we possess to be on display. Somewhat painful, but I've accepted this thought process and have all kinds of buildings in storage - even several premiums. That which I do have out is nicely decorated and I want it to remain that way. My town is more or less finished, but is lacking any Squidport design. Need the deco limit raised mainly for that reason.
Feel free to send me a friend request if you have the space - I always enjoy visiting beautiful towns. :D - jukan00New Spectator

Great post. Feel exactly the same on so many of your points. I like snapdragons, what can I say?
You still have one of the best towns I've ever seen.
(I promise I'll try to clean up/design some more on my town neighbor! )
