OR a premium player like me, who respects how other people play the game. I'm sure mobile game companies value freemium players, because they can potentially become premium players, and at the very least they can get the word out to other people. Freemium is a smart buzz marketing tactic. A feemium player is a lot better than no player at all.
When I started playing, I thought I'd NEVER spend money on this game. I, as many do, took pride in my "freemium" player status and was convinced EA wouldn't ever see one nickel of my hard earned paycheck. "I won't ever let myself get caught up in this game so much that I'd ever 'waste' actual money on a stupid phone game..."
In December, I took Gil's donut deal via another real world deal ($100 iTunes gift card for $85) and don't regret it in the least. I have 1000+ donuts still to spend and will likely invest on the next Gil offer. EA's marketing tactic may have worked on me, but I feel it's been a fair transaction as I'm more satisfied with my town because of it.
edit: I also introduced the game to a friend who is a huge fan of "The Simpsons." He invested money immediately, before I ever even gave it a thought...
