Felon Fight Timer Resetting

I've had this problem as well. Couple things I do each time has seemed to help. Before clearing anything else I set up my felons on fights.. Then spend 5+ minutes clearing my town. Check the felons to ensure time is counting down. Pop over to KL or your Friends page to sync your town. Come back and check the felons again.
I was having this problem a lot when that part of the event started but it seems to have gotten better for me.
Make sure the fighter and the felon have started the task before you exit the game.. And if you can for added measure give them a few minutes of fighting before leaving.
